Getting to Mikulov

From Prague the trains take a little over 4 hours to cover the 338km to Mikulov, with a change at border town Břeclav. Buses take around the same time to cover a slightly shorter route and it will be necessary to change either in Brno or Znojmo. For an individual traveller the bus will be cheaper than the train, but small groups of two or more people who can make use of the groups discount will find the train more economical.

From Vienna, trains take around 2 hrs 25 minutes to cover the 130km to Mikulov, again with a change at border station Břeclav. The cheapest way to pay for the journey is to buy the ticket from Vienna only to Břeclav and then use Czech crowns to pay the lower Czech rate per kilometre for the last part of the journey. There's also one early morning direct bus from Vienna to Mikulov each week day, but if you want to take it, be sure to reserve a seat in adavance.

From Olomouc the best train connections take 1 hour 52 minutes to cover the 146 km to Mikulov. There's a change at Břeclav and 2 minutes doesn't seem like much time, but the local 'Os' trains always waist for the long distance 'R' or 'Ex' trains to arrive, even if there is a delay.

From Brno frequent direct buses travel the 54km to Mikulov in as little as an hour. Beware the slow buses that seem to stop at every house and take up to twice as long as the express buses. It;s also possible to travel by train via Břeclav, but with buses faster, cheaper and more frequent there'd have to be a special reason (carrying a bicycle maybe) to take the train.

From Kutná Hora, Český Krumlov, Karlovy Vary it's best to make your way to Břeclav by train and switch there for Mikulov; or to Brno and take one of the aforementioned buses from there.
